Last year, due to the pandemic, not only Sri Lanka, most countries around the globe, saw the capacity of their health care systems. Its dependability and effectiveness and responsiveness were single-handedly shown at the time of adversity.
Some countries witnessed both government and the citizens were struggling with the resources and being pressed for funds, which consequently resulted in debt, that piled up by the hour.
Just like the Spanish flu, the bubonic plague, COVID will leave society, in several years. But, there will be something else, that will remain, in the society, longer than we expect it to be.
The Primary Health Care System Strengthening Project (PSSP) of the World Bank is currently operating in Sri Lanka for a single mission that they wish to accomplish. That is to control and, hopefully, prevent the adverse situation of the rapidly growing rates of NCDs in the country.
The PSSP expended US$ 191 million to execute this program. And the prime objective is to help those who are currently having complications due to NCDs and to help educate those who are possibly at this risk.
Thanks to the planned 1,000 Suwa Divi Saayana or Healthy Life Clinics, this mission will be executed to reach their vision of controlling and finally eradicating the development of NCDs in Sri Lanka.
The target audience of this execution will consist of a dense population of citizens beyond the age of 35. Which, indicates a larger portion of the current Millennials.
So, what can we do?
The cost of all this is minimum, but the cost for a Critical Illness or a major surgery could be adverse.
And it is only a handful of people, who is essentially covered under an updated and upgraded health insurance.
But, a simpler way of tackling daily routines, can make you healthier, take you longer and gift you a better life.
